The core of the CGRE's teaching concept is the further development of teaching at the institute while maintaining the same high quality and standards. As an institute whose teaching bridges the interdisciplinary gap between mathematics, computer science and the geosciences, we develop tools and methods to make the introduction to foreign subjects interactive and easy.
Prof. Wellmann received a fellowship for "Innovation in Digital Higher Education" by the Stifterverbund NRW in 2018. Supported by this fellowship we developed novel methods to teach numerical methods and geoscientific programming to geoscience students interactively and step-by-step.
We offer a variety of courses in the field of computational geoscience, geothermics, geostatistics, numerical reservoir engineering, geological modeling, and scientific machine learning. We also offer field courses and field trips on related topics.
The Joint Master Applied Geophysics is an international degree program offered by the University of Delft, ETH Zurich, and RWTH Aachen University. Prof. Wellmann is responsible for the coordination of this Master's programme at RWTH Aachen University and member of the Joint Examination Board, as well as head of the local examination board.
This weekly geophysics seminar joins students and staff at the institute of „Computational Geoscience, Geothermics and Reservoir Geophysics“ for presentations of results from on-going work at the institute.
