ExpARGeo (RWTH)
The Expargeo projects is funded by the Excellence Initiative of the German federal and state governments. The aim of the project is the development and realization of an augmented reality sandbox for interaction with geological data and models, that will serve as an experimental platform for augmented reality projects in geoscience.
In the fields of geology and geophysics, the understanding of three-dimensional relationships in the subsurface is of great importance. At the same time, it is becoming easier and easier to collect large amounts of data and convert them into geological models. Therefore, new methods for the visualization of geological models are constantly being researched. In particular, new developments in the field of augmented reality, i.e. the superimposition of real and digital objects, offer interesting and diverse possibilities that have hardly been exploited to date.
